We had a wonderful time learning about what clinical research is, how it works, and how it can positively impact the lives of older adults right here in our community. ⚓ Senior Living Toledo Ohio Submarine Veterans Memorial Display: Honoring Those Who Never Returned
This month at Genesis Village, we were deeply honored to showcase a truly remarkable Memorial Day tribute display created by the Toledo Submarine Veterans, who gather monthly right here in our community.
This powerful exhibit pays tribute to the U.S. submarines that never returned home and the nearly 3,700 brave lives lost in service to our country. The display features:
- A world map marking the approximate locations where submarines were lost
- Reproduction patches representing each submarine’s distinctive unit identification
- A tribute noting that since the first U.S. submarine was commissioned in 1900, a total of 65 submarines have been lost—including 52 during World War II, marked in red on the map
Residents, veterans, staff, and visitors all had the opportunity to pause, reflect, and honor the sacrifices made by these courageous servicemen, while learning more about a vital chapter of our nation’s military history.
We are so grateful to the Toledo Submarine Veterans for sharing this powerful and educational exhibit with our Genesis Village family. To learn more about the history of U.S. submarine warfare, the Naval History and Heritage Command offers a rich collection of records and stories honoring those who served beneath the waves.

We recently introduced a brand-new game called Kings and Queens Bingo, and it is already a massive hit. Our Atrium was packed with laughter, cheering, and some seriously fun competition. Our residents definitely play to win!

Journey to Normandy Presentation: Uncovering the Past That Shaped Our Future
At Genesis Village, we had the honor of hosting a powerful and heartfelt presentation: “Journey to Normandy: Uncovering the Past That Shaped Our Future,” presented by Carolyn with the Women Veterans Initiative.
Residents and fellow veterans were taken on a moving visual journey through Normandy—exploring the beaches, memorials, and historic sites where courage and sacrifice forever changed the course of history. Through recently taken photographs and thoughtful storytelling, this presentation gave everyone a chance to:
- Reflect on the bravery of those who served
- Remember the incredible sacrifices made on those shores
- Honor the legacy of all who fought for our freedom
We are incredibly grateful to Carolyn and the Women Veterans Initiative for sharing this meaningful experience with our community and for helping preserve the legacy of our veterans for generations to come.
