At Genesis Village, independent senior living in Northwest Ohio means more than maintenance-free apartments — it means connection, movement, celebration, and purpose.
Last week beautifully captured what active senior living should look like: heartfelt Valentine’s surprises, a themed Winter in Paris dance, and a Walking Club milestone worth celebrating. Here is your official Village Recap!
🍪 Valentine’s Day Kindness: Strengthening Senior Connection & Combating Loneliness
Sweet treats and even sweeter hearts filled Genesis Village this Valentine’s Day.
A massive thank you to Cookies for Better and Hope in a Hello for hand-delivering homemade chocolate chip cookies and beautiful Valentines to our residents. The smiles said it all. 🍪💌
Moments like these are more powerful than they may seem. According to the National Institute on Aging, social isolation and loneliness are linked to increased risks of heart disease, depression, and cognitive decline in older adults (source: https://www.nia.nih.gov/health/loneliness-and-social-isolation-tips-staying-connected). Intentional connection truly impacts health.
Additionally, research from the CDC shows that loneliness can increase the risk of premature death at levels comparable to smoking or obesity (source: https://www.cdc.gov/emotional-wellbeing/social-connectedness/loneliness.htm).
At Genesis Village, community engagement is not optional — it is foundational. Through resident events, nonprofit partnerships, and weekly programming, we actively work to reduce loneliness and increase meaningful connection.

🗼 Winter in Paris: Themed Events That Keep Seniors Active & Engaged
Ooh la la! ❤️
Our residents danced the night away at our Winter in Paris themed event. From a Paris-inspired dinner to elegant décor and a lively dance floor, the evening was filled with music, laughter, and friendship. 🗼💃🌹
Why do themed events matter in independent senior living?
Because engagement directly impacts health. According to the National Council on Aging (NCOA), seniors who remain socially and physically active have improved mobility, better mental health outcomes, and reduced risk of chronic disease progression (source: https://www.ncoa.org/article/the-importance-of-socialization-for-older-adults).
At Genesis Village, our events calendar is intentionally designed to promote movement, joy, and belonging.

Whether it is a dance, educational seminar, fitness class, or community celebration, there is always something happening at the Village.
👟 Walking Club Success: The Health Benefits of Staying Active After 60
GOAL ACCOMPLISHED! 🙌
One of our residents, Marilyn, successfully met her Walking Club goal for both December and January. What an incredible achievement!
Physical activity is one of the most important components of healthy aging. The CDC recommends that adults age 65+ engage in at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity per week to reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes, falls, and cognitive decline (source: https://www.cdc.gov/physicalactivity/basics/older_adults/index.htm).
Even more encouraging — studies show regular walking can reduce the risk of all-cause mortality by up to 31% in older adults (Harvard Health Publishing: https://www.health.harvard.edu/staying-healthy/walking-your-steps-to-health).
At Genesis Village, it is not just about hitting step counts. It is about accountability, encouragement, and celebrating progress together.
Our Walking Club is just one part of our vibrant Life Enrichment programming, which includes fitness classes, aqua fitness, themed dinners, educational talks, game tournaments, and more.
